Always one of the senior players in any teams that he plays in, Sims' impact on the team's qualifying matches will be limited as he can only participate in 4 of the ten matches due to Outdoor Cricket committments with the Pulsars in the C2 North Brisbane Warehouse Cricket Competition. A team of which he is Captain.
Oliver has always been a steady rather than spectacular cricketer, and relies on nouse to get him through. His strength is his batting where his relaxed technique and good timing allow him to play almost any form of bowling competently. The major technique flaw that Sims has is that he tends to look for the legside shot too much. This can certainly create problems against quicker bowlers.
In terms of bowling, Sims has slowed his pace down considerably this season, and has been concentrating on subtle movement and variation. It is yet to be seen how successful this ploy will be, however the low-impact balls have a tendency to swing violently. This reduced pace should certainly help Ol' in this area.
Ol's other great strength is
his fielding. He has led this side before from the receiver position, and
may get called on to field there again if the match tightens up. However,
for the moment he is likely to be tested at 2-up where his agility should
prove an asset to the Redbacks who are a little light on frontcourt talent.
