For a player who has not had as much big-game experience as his teammates, the Redbacks' season could well hinge on the performance of this gifted youngster. Seeing this, Brendan has been appointed vice-captain for the season, and will need to lead by example if the Redbacks are to be a success, especially in the crucial receiver position.
Batting can be either looked at as Brendan's strength or his weakness. He has excellent timing and a full array of shots at his disposal, and the touch to play the ball into the front nets consistently. However, this talent is often wasted by too often going for the rash shot when it is not needed. It will be interesting to see if the responsibility of the VC next to his name will curb this natural aggression. The upside of this though is that scoring thirty runs a game is not out of the question.
Leslie's weakness would admittedly be his bowling. Not one of great height, a desire to bowl too quickly instead of concentrating on rhythm can lead to too many easy deliveries for the batsman. This has started to improve in training however, and increased work has resulted in the development of a good late inswinger.
Though his greatest tlent may be with
the bat, Brendan's prime responsibility this year will be guarding the back net
as receiver. His quickness will be his greatest asset, however it will be his
courage to get behind the ball which will ultimately determine his success here.
